Counseling

School counselors play a vital role in supporting the well-being and success of all students. They provide academic guidance, career planning, and social-emotional support through one-on-one meetings, group sessions, and classroom lessons.

Counselors help students develop coping skills, build positive relationships, and set goals for the future. They also collaborate with families and staff to create a safe, inclusive, and supportive school environment. Counseling services are available to all students throughout the school year.

Message from School Counselor

Welcome to my Monroe Elementary School Counseling Page!

Hello! I'm Carrie Surowiec, School Counselor here at Monroe Elementary. My role is to support students in their social, emotional, and academic growth. Whether it's navigating friendships, managing big emotions, or setting goals for success, I'm here to help every student thrive.

I offer a safe, caring space for students to talk about their feelings, work through challenges, and learn important skills for life. My goal is to create a positive environment where every student feels valued, supported, and encouraged.

Social-emotional learning (SEL) is critically important in elementary education because it helps children develop essential life skills that contribute to their overall well-being, academic success, and healthy relationships. Here at Monroe, your child's classroom teacher provides 20 essential Second-Step lessons while I supplement the program with Bullying Prevention and the Child Protection Units. I also offer small, targeted, social skills groups, as well, for students who may need extra support in a specific area.

Parents and guardians, I’m also here for you! Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns about your child's well-being or development. Students are more successful when their basic needs are met--and I can help with resources for food, shelter, and clothing.

Together, we can make this school year a great one for your child!
